2011 Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year
Lexington’s Chamber of Commerce named Lockett Wayne Nelson Citizen of the Year last week. Nelson moved to
Lexington in 1979 and began helping the youth in the Lexington area that same year.
According to Chamber members, Nelson keeps a low profile in the community, quietly going about helping
others. He and his wife, Letha, raised two sons who each graduated from Lexington High School in 1994 and
1997. They settled in a home on Avenue G shortly after they moved here before moving just off FM 1624. Nelson
retired from TU Electric (now Luminant) in 2007 and spends some of his leisure time enjoying Eagle baseball games.
Members of the committee who chose Nelson for this award said, “Lockett Wayne Nelson is a genuinely nice and
friendly person who is always smiling and always positive. He doesn’t know a stranger, always greeting people
whether he knows them or not. Lockett is a good example of what a good citizen should be like.”
